Kristina Virtanen

Kristina Virtanen is a Project Manager at the Helsinki City Library. Since 2001 she has been in charge of international tasks at the library. Before that she worked as a planner at the library’s Multicultural Library. During that time she was also a member of the Library Services to Multicultural Populations Section in IFLA (1998-2001). Currently she is working as national coordinator for IFLA WLIC 2012 in Helsinki.

She has served as Finland’s national coordinator in many EU-projects where the Helsinki City Library has been a partner, for example PULMAN and PULMAN-XT, CALIMERA, ENTITLE.

She has been involved with the development of library management since 1995, working first in the Baltic States, and in Russia since 1999. In 2008 she began working in Kaliningrad with library management, but today she also works with other topics that are important in developing the library system. The work in Kaliningrad is financed by the Nordic Council of Ministers and is carried out with other Nordic partners.
