Ritva Hyttinen

Ritva Hyttinen has been working as a lecturer in the Degree Programme on Library and Information Services in the Turku University of Applied Sciences over the past ten years. At the beginning, she taught the vocational subjects in a large scale, but since 2005 she has been increasingly interested in the communal and multicultural library work.

Her orientation towards these themes started through two projects. The communal library project in Senegal was a study project at the grass root and the North South South LIS Network is a co-operation between six higher educational institutions in Namibia, South-Africa, Senegal and Finland. The years 2008 – 2011 she worked in the project called Open Zone, which focused on the multicultural library work. This project was one of the main stages in her career, in particular, the opportunity to develop and implement the LIS continuing education for the students with an immigrant background. After this training, she has concentrated on the need of diversity competence in the LIS profession and education.
